  1.   Prokofiev's 8th Piano Sonata is the last of the 3 piano
  2. sonatas written consecutively during the Second World War.
  3. The finale contains some stunningly brilliant writing
  4. for the piano, especially the last minute or two,
  5. sandwiching a middle section that is, well, almost
  6. unredeemable.  It's hard to listen to once, so try it
  7. again. If nothing else, it makes the outer parts of the
  8. movement seem all the more interesting and moving. Perhaps
  9. it's meant to represent in some way the pain caused by the
  10. war, but this has been said of a lot of music written at
  11. this time.  Decide for yourself.
